Tudor Creek

The Tudor Creek Mangrove Restoration and Livelihood Project is located just north of Mombasa within the Tudor Creek estuary, a vital coastal ecosystem that supports fisheries and livelihoods, protects shorelines, and provides essential habitat for wildlife. Covering approximately 300 hectares of degraded mangrove forest, the project focuses on restoring and safeguarding one of the region’s most important coastal buffers.

In partnership with Guardians of Nature and People, the Kenya Forest Service, Community Forest Associations, and Beach Management Units, the project combines large scale planting, assisted natural regeneration, and long term community stewardship.

A key livelihood component is structured apiculture. Beekeeping provides an accessible income stream for local groups while supporting ecosystem recovery through pollination, which strengthens vegetation growth and biodiversity. By linking mangrove restoration with sustainable livelihoods, the project promotes both ecological resilience and economic stability for surrounding communities.
